Pads for pad printing are silicone rubber “stamps”, produced in a variety of shapes, hardnesses and qualities. The base material is silicone rubber. The role of the pad is to transfer the image to be printed and implicitly the ink from the mold (cliché) to the object to be printed.

For the correct transfer of the image, the pad must be made so that :

- it is easily deformable but allows for a smooth transmission of the image

- it has high mechanical resistance

- it has good rejection of static charges

- it has a stable surface tension

- it has a shiny surface

The characteristics of a pad are given by the three dimensions – length, width and height, which together with the shape of the active surface determine the maximum area that can be printed. Pad manufacturers specify for each standard pad presented in the catalog, the three dimensions as well as the maximum area that can be printed.

The choice of pad shape depends on the size and type of the image to be printed, as well as the shape of the object to be printed.

Standard pads are manufactured in various degrees of hardness between 2 and 18 Shore A - relative hardness.

Hardness influences the quality of the print, but also the durability of the pad.

Pad printing machines, regardless of the operating mode, can work with pads of different sizes and hardness, these parameters being dictated by the surface to be printed.

The most frequently used pads are presented in the attached Technical Data Sheet.

For an overview of all types of pads available, you can consult the ITW Morlock GmbH catalog.
